(More customer reviews)While it worked, it was a great machine. The coffee was great and so was the hot chocolate. Very convenient for the whole family. I even found K-cups at my local Stop and Shop grocery store for only 5.99 for a box of 12.
I received this for Christmas and it stopped working on New Year's day. Machine rumbles displaying "Not Ready" then shuts off. After keeping it powered off for about an hour it started working again, but then konked out, once again, mid brew. I wrote to customer service on Keurig's website and didn't get a reply after 5 days, so I called their 866 number.
After waiting on hold for approx. an hour for a technician, I was told that I was not allowed to wait any longer on hold and that they would call me back after 24 to 48 hours. The person I spoke to said that they have had an influx of calls with this problem since Christmas. Must be a bad batch that went out. I was also told that if they had replied by email, they would have told me to call, so don't waste your time with email.
I purchased the machine from Costco, but no longer have the box, so I don't know if I can return to them. If I am not able to get any satisfaction from Keurig, I will try going back to Costco. I will update this review with the final status of this problem.
1/10/10 update: I had to wait 3 days for a technician to call me back. The technician told me to use a paper clip and make sure the top and bottom spouts were clear and we ran through several hot water cycles on different cup settings.
I don't know if this 'fixed' the problem because at that point it had been working again. The tech. said that the hot cocoa cups could clog the spouts (although I do run a hot water cycle after each hot cocoa cup is 'brewed'). She also said there may be a problem with the separate filter that allows me to use my own coffee as opposed to their K-Cups. After her call, I stopped using the hot cocoa and the separate filter and so far have not had any problems.
1/26/10 update- The machine started shutting off yet again. I contacted customer service and they promptly told me that they would send me a new machine. The new machine is working perfectly (so far) and the "motor" definitely sounds different. I am hopeful. I had to send them a part from the old machine within 30 days in order to not be charged for the new machine.
When it works, this really is a great machine and so convenient. I hope I got a good one this time around.

Tassimo Hot Beverage System-Black Review

(More customer reviews)I admit it. I love the smell of fresh coffee, but after it's sat for a while in a coffee pot, growing stronger and more bitter by the microsecond, I hate coffee. A friend of my daughter's bought her a Tassimo as a wedding gift, and every time we visited, she offered us the hot beverage of our choice. Now one thing I am for sure is a gadget-lover, and I fell in love with this one. So my daughter, son and husband surprised me with this wonderful machine on my recent birthday. As I sit here writing this review, I am enjoying a cup of Gevalia with cream. And I didn't have to make a whole pot which I would later end up dumping because of bitter taste which makes me cringe to think about.
When I don't feel like having coffee, I can make tea, cappuccino, latte, and many others (I'm sure) which I haven't yet discovered. Every morning, my husband has his traditional Lipton tea first and then his second beverage before heading off to work, a fresh cup of breakfast coffee. My son's favorite is Maxwell House French Vanilla. Within a few short minutes, we can each have the beverage of our choice.
So, if you're like me ... a finicky coffee drinker, or if you just want to improve your coffee experience, this is the machine for you. Buy one ... and have a cup of coffee on me!

(More customer reviews)I almost did not buy this product because of the reviews, but I did not believe that Consumers Report Magazine could be that wrong. This report stated that this product made excellent coffee due to the correct brewing temperature. That is exactly what the Kalorik does. After using it for several weeks now, I cannot support a single complaint against this product, except one. The pot is difficult to get back into the machine. Not because it fits too tightly as reported, but because the part that holds the coffee grounds sometimes prevents the pot from entering all the way. Another ridiculous complaint was that the opening was too small to pour the water. I do not have a clue what that was all about. I am a 78 year old man and I can pour a full pot of water into the machine without spilling a drop. There is two large openings on both sides of the machine. Go figure. Another statement was that the Kalorik belched out steam. I learned that hot water makes steam. It takes hot water to make good coffee, so if you do not want the steam, get a pot that does not heat the water and you will eliminate the steam problem. Again, I did not find the steam to be excessive and I have the coffee maker under the cupboards. The Kalorik is not pretty, but it makes an excellent cup of coffee. Like a woman, I will take quality over looks anytime.
In short, read between the lines when using customer reviews to help make your purchase.

KRUPS KM8105, 12-Cup Die-Cast Programmable Coffeemaker Review

(More customer reviews)Had I read these reviews before buying this coffee maker, I would have stayed away ..... far away. But it looked good in the store, so I went for it. The dripping carafe is the biggest problem. It's really bad. So I called Customer Support (1-800-526-5377) and I must say they were accommodating (must be getting a lot of calls on this one, or they're simply blowing me off!). They took my name and address and said they would ship a redesigned replacement carafe when they become available at the end of December (apparently the carafe's are in the process of being manufactured). I'll wait and see. I like the look and feel of the machine and the coffee is fine, it just makes a mess when you pour.
They did ask if I had the receipt and if I had the machine in front of me (yes on the receipt, no on the machine as I'm at work). However, they did not ask that I fax anything, unlike other reports I've read. So for now, I'll pour over the sink and hope they keep their word.
My one concern is in regards to a company that would actually manufacture and market a product that is obviously poorly designed to the point of being defective. Makes you wonder about the quality control for the rest of the unit. But if you own one of these, and can't or don't want to return it, call Customer Support, ask for a new and improved carafe, and keep your fingers crossed.
Update Dec 18, 2009:
True to their word, my new carafe arrived yesterday. Basically, they widened the spout and removed the baffle. Works perfectly. I'm pleased with the quick response, as I really want to like this machine. No other complaints, although the 2 stage timer advertised on the box would have been a nice addition, especially at this price. So I'm revising my rating from 1 star to 4. If you own one with the old style carafe, call customer service at the number above. The concern someone else mentioned about the removable tank eventually leaking is a possibility, I guess. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm OK with it.

(More customer reviews)I recently changed colors in my kitchen from red to blue & looked for months for small kitchen electrics in blue. After many tries I chanced upon the Miallegro products and, because they were so inexpensive I decided to give them a try. I purchased 3 products, the stand/hand mixer, the blender & the coffee maker. All three products perform as well or better than the expensive name brands I have used for years...Cuisinart, Kitchen Aid, etc. The mixer can be used as a stand mixer or just pop off the top & use it as a hand mixer. The bowl is a little smaller than other brands, but I have some older mixer bowls that will fit if I need larger. The blender container is much larger than other brands which is nice for making larger batches of drinks & it crushes ice great! It's a little loud, but takes much less time than others I have had, especially if you're using a lot of ice. The coffee maker makes a full 12 cups & has a permanent filter which is so much nicer than using paper filters, and the coffee tastes great. It doesn't have a clock or a programmable feature but I don't need those, so it's not a problem for me.
All in all, I am very pleased with my purchases...by buying 3 at the same time I saved a lot on shipping charges...the total for all three items, including shipping, was under $130! You can't even buy 1 of the big name brands for that. And they're really cute, too, and look great on my kitchen counter!

Krups Precision 12 Cup Coffee Maker Review

This review is for the Krups KM 4065 coffeemaker. I believe this is the first of a new line of coffeemakers designed Bjorn Dahlstrom. At the moment, this coffeemaker is not on the Krups website and there is little information available on the web. I've only had it for a couple of days so here are my initial thoughts.
Pros:
1. Looks fantastic
2. Seems reasonably well built and the top door opens and closes smoothly
3. This has a different water gauge from the FM series and it works well and is easy to read (no bubbles).
4. I've filled the reservoir from both a Brita pitcher and from the included carafe without spillage. (That said the fill area is at the back near the door hinge)
5. Uses #4 Filters
6. Makes a great cup of coffee
7. The included carafe pours well
Cons:
1. Pricey for a unit without a thermal carafe
2. Programming is non-intuitive and a little frustrating
3. Manual could be a lot better
4. Like most stainless steel appliances, fingerprints may be an issue if you are not careful
5. Durability of main button to open top lid remains to be determined
6. Carafe seems a little light and the cover flimsy
Overall, I am very pleased with this beautiful coffeemaker. It looks like the design changes have addressed the water gauge issue with the FM series and so far I've had no leaks. The carafe works well so coffee spillage is not a problem and most importantly my initial experience is that this machine makes good coffee.
I have deducted one star due to the fact I've only had it 2 days and can't attest to the long-term durability of the unit and it is a little pricey compared to competing units.

First a heads-up... the product's picture shows a "black" carafe which might lead you to believe it is a thermal carafe. This is not the case, it is actually a glass carafe filled to the brim with coffee. As such, be forewarned that this product does not include a thermal carafe (I was fooled, but it's interesting to note that Amazon suggested I include "thermal carafe" when "tagging" this review.) Instead, it ships with a glass carafe and features a hot-plate that has a programmable auto shut-off.
My disappointment with the carafe aside, this product has worked marvelously (received it three weeks ago.) It houses a burr grinder as opposed to a cheap blade grinder. It cleans up very easily compared to my old "Melitta MEMB1 Mill & Brew" (less than two minutes to rinse the carafe and filter-chamber/cap; after drying it's ready to be loaded with a new filter in less than 30 seconds.) The bean-hopper has a good seal to it, although I am unsure as to whether the clear plastic used offers UV protection (I would prefer to see a shaded plastic used to protect the beans inside; but I suppose the clear plastic offers a better design-element and the functionality of being able to see the level of beans inside.) And, in terms of the most important aspect, it makes great tasting coffee! (My girlfriend still marvels daily at how good the coffee is.)
Having owned and operated a coffee shop a few years back, I thought I might emphasize the importance of buying a burr grinder vs a blade grinder (for those of you who are interested and new to the art of making gourmet coffee.) First, burr grinders do not produce nearly the level of heat that can be produced by blade grinders. Heat denatures the delicate flavors of the beans (which is also why I was disappointed by having a glass carafe that sits over a direct source of high-heat.) Second, burr grinders ensure that each particle of ground coffee is consistent in size; meaning flavor extraction can be truly optimized and achieved with consistency... The flavor of your coffee is based on the contact time between the beans' chemicals and water; varied sizes of particles means the chemicals are exposed to water for varying amounts of time, and the chemicals have varied distances to travel to escape the fibers of the bean particles. A blade grinder results in variably-variable sizes of particles... meaning variable flavors escaping the clutches of the bean fibers. If you are planning to spend the extra money to buy high-quality beans, it is important to both preserve the chemicals inside (destroyed by heat, light and oxygen) and to extract them in a reasonable manner that enables isolation of the chemicals responsible for "good" flavors.

Chemex Drip Coffee Carafe - 8 Cup Review

(More customer reviews)Using a Chemex requires water to be heated in a tea kettle prior to brewing, and it requires a finer ground than what auto-drip machines ask for. After the water is brought to a boil, it's important to wait for it to cool just slightly (about 30 seconds) and then you need to wet the grounds in the filter, wait for them to drain, and then fill the pot with water. Want more than a single cup of coffee? You wait for your first pour to brew, and then fill the filter again.
Some advantages over other forms of coffee brewing:
1. Taste: I don't know how it does it, but the filter does keep your coffee from being bitter.
2. Cleanability: Users can keep all necessary components clean (anyone who's brewed water and vinegar through their coffee maker to kill off a bitter taste that wasn't there when you bought it understands this plight). Oftentimes, the most aggressive criticism of the Chemex is its ponderousness to clean because it's not possible to get your hand into the reservoir. Some people prefer to add hot water and soap and give it a good rinse, which is fine if you clean the moment you empty the pot, but if you're like me and you let the remaining sip or two sit until a nice coffee stain is on the glass, then you need some good 'ol fashion friction to get it clean. The best thing I've found: a baby bottle cleaner. It's narrow enough to get into the reservoir and the angle can be adjusted to scrap the walls, too. Brilliant!
3. Electricity Free: As long as you can boil water, you can have coffee.
4. Mud/Sludge: French press and stove-top espresso-style brewing always leaves a thick slime at the bottom of an otherwise rich cup of coffee. Don't get me wrong: I think that's good (I use a French Press when I'm in the mood), but the cone on a Chemex doesn't allow that at all.
5. Style/Size: the Chemex coffee pot is a relic (designed in the 40s) and the wood cuff with rawhide tie screams simplicity and elegance and it's a wonderful, minimalist sight on any kitchen counter (and unlike electric coffee makers, easy to move if you need the space).
Some drawbacks any purchaser should consider:
1. Time: it does take 5 - 10 minutes of labor to get the morning cup of coffee.
2. Cones: you can't run over to Wal-Mart when you use the last filter; you need to find a specialty store or go online, which means you need to plan ahead.
3. Cold Coffee: no electric hot plate (thank god) means coffee not poured and consumed immediately gets cold quickly. You can buy a wire guard and a glass lid so your Chemex can be warmed on the stovetop. I think that's more labor added to an already laborious endeavor. Just have a warmed thermos ready and use that to store any unused coffee.
4. Learning Curve: It does take some time to get the grind right, the amount right and the water level right to find a cup which caters to your tongue.
5. Cleanability: I know this is in the advantages column, as well, but it's worth mentioning that a lot of people hate cleaning these things. To submerge it does mean pulling off the wood cuff (which is a small pain) else it will get nasty over time.

(More customer reviews)When my $100 coffee maker quit, I researched coffee makers and found this model from DeLonghi I hadn't heard of before. The design of this model sets a new standard for on-the-counter coffee makers. It is incredible to be able to put the filter, coffee, AND WATER in the maker without moving the machine. The caraffe doesn't drip when pouring into the swing out arm (or into the cup later) so there's no messy drips to wipe up at any time.
The digital clock isn't the quickest to set since you have to hold a button in as it changes in minutes only, but hopefully that won't need set often.
The "aroma" button really works! There actually is a difference in the brewing aroma with it on.
Most importantly, the end product was a great cup of coffee! I'm thrilled with the coffee maker and haven't found a single negative aspect yet, including the price. I HIGHLY recommend this model. Kudos Delonghi, you really outdid yourself here. Amazon's shipping was simple and fast. The whole purchasing experience was exceptional. A+++++

Chemex Drip Coffee Carafe - 6 Cup Review

(More customer reviews)There is a dirty little secret that many of these appliance companies don't want you to know. Manual drip coffee from a simple cone device makes the best coffee. Here's why. You need to have two tablespoons of coffee for every cup. The water must be just below the boiling point when it hits the grounds. Water which is poured in one little stream on top of dry grounds will cause a funnel effect an most of the grounds won't immersed effectively.
The fancy auto-drip coffee makers don't heat the grounds effectively and don't cover them with water properly in the brewing process. If most people really looked at the back of their coffee maker and looked at where the water is kept in reserve, they would call a Haz-Mat team to clean it up.
Why get this instead of a cheap plastic cone, the filter paper is thicker with the Chemex, retains more bitter oils and the thick glass of the Chemex will keep the coffee warm enough for a second cup (I would suggest getting the glass lid for it also.

Bosch Tassimo Single Serve Coffee Brewers Review

(More customer reviews)Ordered this new Bosch Tassimo machine on-line directly from Tassimo. Same price as Amazon at $139.99. www.tassimo.com. We have been using it for about a week now and I absolutely love it! We had used the Braun Tassimo machine for about 5 years and the new Bosch has much improved the Tassimo coffee maker. Here's a list of the Improvements:
1. It's narrower and doesn't take up as much counter space
2. There is a power button on the front of the machine so you can easily turn it off at night.
3. There is essentially no water warm-up time. It is almost instant after you insert the T-disc and push the green button.
4. It is extemely quiet.
5. It even makes the coffee a little stronger than the old machine did.
6. It does not collect waste water that you have to empty all the time. Only the few drops of coffee that don't make it into your cup are collected.
7. Much better filtering system. It also has a change filter indicator to tell you when its time to change the filter.
8. Higher construction quality, more solid feel to the machine.

"I bought this from a local VT dealer. For the first couple of weeks the coffee was great - strong as we like it. But then, quality completely changed and I had trouble with the brewing of the coffee thereafter. My local dealer wasn't "trained by Bosch" to service and it took me from 2008 to 2011 to get a qualified service person to look at the machine. Bosch Customer Service sent new parts ahead for service and when they were replaced there was NO improvement. The serviceman deemed the coffee 'good', but admitted he didn't like or drink coffee! When I said that it seemed that the water wasn't remaining on the pod long enough he didn't know anything about it or the brewing process.
My son has a different built-in coffee maker, which is very good, and when mine was new, the coffee from it was comparable to his. But it didn't remain good and there is nothing we can do to improve it. We've tried all kinds of beans to no avail.We have filtered water, apart from the Bosch filter.
Repeated calls to Bosch have told me that there is nothing further that they can do. I feel that a replacement is due to us at the very least...for an expensive coffee machine. My $9.99 coffee maker does a better job."

(More customer reviews)I've had my DeLonghi Esclusivo coffeemaker for exactly 3 months. It brewed the best tasting coffee I've ever had. It was my favorite coffee maker by far for the following reasons: Coffee is delicious -slow brewing permits a more robust coffee. Small footprint on my counter. Stylish design. VERY easy to program and use. Large opening through which to pour water. Charcoal filter to purify water. Automatic shut off. Caraffe has large opening for easy cleaning. NON-DRIP POURING!! I was in heaven with this coffeemaker and knew I'd found the perfect one. (I've had many in my lifetime.)
Unfortunately, two days ago, the plastic surrounding the hot plate began to melt. The vendor from whom I purchased it has already refunded my money and has asked me to return it. I will NOT purchase another one for fear of fire hazard. This coffeemaker would have received 10 stars from me had it not begun to melt itself to death. For this reason, I'm heartsick.....it WAS the perfect coffeemaker.

(More customer reviews)I ordered this because I have always had pretty good luck with Proctor Silex coffee makers They generally last a long time. The only complaint that I have is that the coffee isn't really very hot. I always put it in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it to the desired temperature. Other than that, it turns itself on and brews my coffee at the correct time that I set it for.

(More customer reviews)At this price level, most coffee makers are terrible. This Delonghi model seems to be one of the rare exceptions. I've had it for over a week now and I'm very pleased with it.
The Good:
-Well designed carafe. When you pour a cup of coffee, it doesn't spill everywhere like some makers I've used in the past. Additionally, it's proven easy to clean
-Fairly solid design. While not bullet proof, the maker as a whole seems sturdy, with one small exception (see below)
-The "Aroma" setting is AWESOME. I've owned many coffee makers in the past and it always takes quite a bit of grounds to brew a pot that's strong enough for me (I like my coffee almost espresso strength). Not with the Delonghi! just put in the grounds, pour in the water, hit "start", then hit the "aroma" button and in 15 minutes you've got yourself coffee that's (at least) twice as strong as coffee from a regular maker
The Bad:
There are only two problems I've had with this maker (and I must stress that they are very MINOR)
-When fully open, the tray for the filter does not quite clear the top of the maker. As a result, you have to tilt the filter and mess with it a bit to get it free of the machine. Additionally, the filter is sometimes a little tricky to get back in, but once you figure out the trick to it it's a bit easier
-The spring that holds the "pause and serve" lever in place seems cheap and looks like it would be easy to break (it hasn't broken yet, so this is just an assumption). This isn't a really big issue for me as I never use this feature, but I know that some people do. On the plus side, the spring is easily accessible, so if it ever did break or come loose, then it would probably be easy to put it back in or replace altogether
Despite these minor problems, the Delonghi coffee maker performs like a champ (indeed good enough to still earn a 5 star rating in my eyes). The good far outweighs the bad, and I'd recommend this maker to anyone who just wants a simple, well-made machine for a decent price.

First things first. This is not my first grind and brew. My old Melitta Mill & Brew, with its faulty plastic latch long since broken had become a drag. For years I had to put a box of chicken stock on top of the grind chamber to keep it shut so it would work! And while it made pretty good coffee, it seemed to waste grounds by spraying them inside the grinder basket. And the daily cleanup ritual had started to make the whole idea of grinding and brewing in one device seem only of marginal value. And yet, the alternatives, including a best-selling Cuisinart model, have notorious bad reviews here at Amazon for being a total chore to clean.
Enter the Capresso CoffeeTeam GS, which solves all of my problems with its ingenious design. No longer do you have to measure the coffee. The CoffeeTeam GS will brew from 2 to 10 cups automatically, grinding just the right amount of beans with no guesswork. Cleanup is a breeze. The filter basket swings out and is easily washed. And because the grinding occurs in a separate chamber from the filter basket, there is no wasted coffee.
The quality of the coffee is also exactly what I want -- hot, and with the full flavor of the bean preserved by the conical burr grinders. If you want stronger or weaker coffee, it's very easy to do. You can also choose finer or coarser grinds depending on the type of coffee you are using (oily coffee should be coarser, light coffee finer).
There are two items that are drawbacks, but I don't mind them so am still giving this five stars. First, the grinder is wake-up-your-wife loud. And it can go for 40 seconds if you are making a full pot. It's not so loud that it hurts your ears, but it is not pleasant, and Capresso would have done well to add some amount of noise insulation. Second, because of the design, a small amount of ground coffee is left in the machine every time. This is an issue in two respects. First, switching from one type of coffee to another is not instantaneous, because invariably there is this overlap. Second, if you leave the machine unused for more than about a week, Capresso recommends cleaning out the coffee chamber and using new coffee. That's because the coffee will get a little more stale with each passing day. But like I said, in my mind these are very minor complaints to a really great product!

Mr. Coffee Coffeemaker Cleaner - For All Automatic Drip Units Review

(More customer reviews)I've used Brewrite coffee pot cleaner on my stainless steal carafe and the residue film just slips off. This product didn't touch it when used as directed. I had to soak the carafe overnight with another dose of the stuff and still had to use a steel wool pad to get it clean. I'm still looking for something like Brewrite! :(
