DeLonghi DC514T 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker Review

DeLonghi DC514T 14-Cup Programmable Drip Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my DeLonghi Esclusivo coffeemaker for exactly 3 months. It brewed the best tasting coffee I've ever had. It was my favorite coffee maker by far for the following reasons: Coffee is delicious -slow brewing permits a more robust coffee. Small footprint on my counter. Stylish design. VERY easy to program and use. Large opening through which to pour water. Charcoal filter to purify water. Automatic shut off. Caraffe has large opening for easy cleaning. NON-DRIP POURING!! I was in heaven with this coffeemaker and knew I'd found the perfect one. (I've had many in my lifetime.)
Unfortunately, two days ago, the plastic surrounding the hot plate began to melt. The vendor from whom I purchased it has already refunded my money and has asked me to return it. I will NOT purchase another one for fear of fire hazard. This coffeemaker would have received 10 stars from me had it not begun to melt itself to death. For this reason, I'm heartsick.....it WAS the perfect coffeemaker.

Brew up to 14 cups (70 ounces) of great-tasting coffee with this easy-to-use drip coffeemaker. The unit's showerhead design helps extract coffee's full natural flavor by allowing water to completely saturate all coffee grounds, while its aroma button activates a unique brewing process that enhances the flavor and aroma of coffee. To achieve this full-bodied flavor, the coffeemaker advances through several continuous cycles that release water into the filter basket in 30-second intervals. This special time-released process saturates grounds a little at a time to extract the best flavor and aroma from coffee. The coffeemaker also provides a pause-and-serve function, for pouring a cup midbrew, and a 24-hour programmable timer with two-hour automatic shut-off. Setting the timer allows for waking up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or for having coffee ready to serve with dessert. The include glass carafe offers measurement markings, a generous stay-cool handle, and a drip-free spout for graceful serving. Other highlights include simple push-button controls, a blue backlit display, a permanent gold-tone filter, advanced water filtration, and a convenient water-level indicator, as well as a non-stick warming plate, a freshness indicator, and cord storage to help keep countertops tidy. A measuring spoon comes included. The coffeemaker measures approximately 8-1/2 by 7-1/5 by 13-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Nespresso 3194-Us-Re Aeroccino and Milk Frother Review

Nespresso 3194-Us-Re Aeroccino and Milk Frother
Average Reviews:

We love having some milk foam in our coffee (made by french press) each morning, and this little frother does a great job. It makes a decent quantity of foam from a small quantity of milk, and the foam has the perfect texture to it. Most importantly, the frother is easy to use and easy to clean. I have used a Aeroccino plus at work and think that the Aeroccino 3 is a little less easy to clean because the opening is narrower, but this problem is negligible.

I have had this product for a couple years and still love it. I wanted a tool that could froth milk/cream so I could drink Cafe Au Lait in the mornings without having to dirty my expresso machine. I use it quite a bit and it never lets me down. It has a powerful swirl and works quickly. It only takes about 15 seconds and I'm done. Cleaning is a breeze, just rinse & dry. My husband uses it to make protein shakes and it handles beautifully, mixing the dry mix with the liquid. It gets rid of all the lumps. I also use it to make oil/vinegar salad dressing and also in gravies. It's a very versatile gadget. I plan to buy one for my son today. Highly recommend.

I ordered this because I have always had pretty good luck with Proctor Silex coffee makers They generally last a long time. The only complaint that I have is that the coffee isn't really very hot. I always put it in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it to the desired temperature. Other than that, it turns itself on and brews my coffee at the correct time that I set it for.

After disposing of my 2nd $20 coffee maker, I decided to invest in this one. It makes the best cup of coffee that I have ever had, and I am very satisfied with the quality. The only flaw is in the design of the carafe, which manages to dribble coffee all over the counter when coffee is poured from it. The electronic controls are very intuitive, and the design is very functional and easy to use. I recommend this product.

DeLonghi 12-Cup Digital Programmable Drip Coffeemakers Review

DeLonghi 12-Cup Digital Programmable Drip Coffeemakers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
At this price level, most coffee makers are terrible. This Delonghi model seems to be one of the rare exceptions. I've had it for over a week now and I'm very pleased with it.
The Good:
-Well designed carafe. When you pour a cup of coffee, it doesn't spill everywhere like some makers I've used in the past. Additionally, it's proven easy to clean
-Fairly solid design. While not bullet proof, the maker as a whole seems sturdy, with one small exception (see below)
-The "Aroma" setting is AWESOME. I've owned many coffee makers in the past and it always takes quite a bit of grounds to brew a pot that's strong enough for me (I like my coffee almost espresso strength). Not with the Delonghi! just put in the grounds, pour in the water, hit "start", then hit the "aroma" button and in 15 minutes you've got yourself coffee that's (at least) twice as strong as coffee from a regular maker
The Bad:
There are only two problems I've had with this maker (and I must stress that they are very MINOR)
-When fully open, the tray for the filter does not quite clear the top of the maker. As a result, you have to tilt the filter and mess with it a bit to get it free of the machine. Additionally, the filter is sometimes a little tricky to get back in, but once you figure out the trick to it it's a bit easier
-The spring that holds the "pause and serve" lever in place seems cheap and looks like it would be easy to break (it hasn't broken yet, so this is just an assumption). This isn't a really big issue for me as I never use this feature, but I know that some people do. On the plus side, the spring is easily accessible, so if it ever did break or come loose, then it would probably be easy to put it back in or replace altogether
Despite these minor problems, the Delonghi coffee maker performs like a champ (indeed good enough to still earn a 5 star rating in my eyes). The good far outweighs the bad, and I'd recommend this maker to anyone who just wants a simple, well-made machine for a decent price.

Briel ES161ACTB Domus Due, Stainless Steel Review

Briel ES161ACTB Domus Due, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love espresso and have searched for a machine that could produce a rich espresso, with bountiful crema. You know, like the kind that can be found everywhere in Europe and nowhere in the U.S.
I have purchased three Briel machines. Two Chamonix models and one higher end Due (costing approx. $300).
My experience with all has been similar. The machines produce a beautiful product. But only for a matter of months. Then, for one reason or another, they break down. The quality of manufacture is mixed or poor.
Nevertheless, I have shelled out $160 - $175 for one Chamonix machine that lasted a year, and another similar amount for a second one that lasted about the same.
And then, like Charlie Brown trying to kick that football and having it be pulled away by Lucy every single time, I hopefully purchase a new machine. This last time I purchased a Due, costing almost twice the price of a Chamonix, hoping perhaps that it would be more enduring.
The Due broke after six months. The pressure guage - - which for the first six months registered a consistent 11 - 13 bar every time - - would no longer climb above 6 bar. The coffee was weak and watery. I ordered a new crema filter at my own expense from Electra-Craft, the exclusive East Coast servicer for Briel products. That made no difference. I changed the grind every which way. I changed the tamping every which way. I sent the machine in to Electra-Craft for repair, paying for the shipping at my own expense and then paying Electra-Craft for the return shipping. I tried putting in a new filter basket, borrowing one from the Briel graveyard that is in my basement.
Electra-Craft said the machine was fine, according to their standards. They say that, although the pump is warranted, the fact that the gauge will not climb above 5 - 6 bar does not indicate a pump failure.
I followed up with a telephone call. Spoke with a technician. No help.
I followed up with another call. Another technician. No help. They gave me the name of a supervisor, Frank.
I wrote to supervisor Frank, I explained all of the above, that I was a repeat Briel customer, that I had spent hours tuning the machine. That the performance was no longer proper and asking, please, what can you do to fix the situation.
Briel wrote back to explain that the machine is fine and that if I were to send the machine back for repair a second time, they would impose an additional service charge on me.
I now have one more Briel corpse in my basement. And in the meantime have swelled Starbucks's coffers during the period that I spent trying to deal with this problem and being unable to use my expensive Briel paperweight.
Briel would be well served were it to replace Electra-Craft as their service provider.
If these machines were built to last at all, they would be perfect, and would merit 5 stars easily. Buy a Briel product only if you are willing to buy another, and another, and another, as each prematurely breaks one after another. Don't bother with shipping a unit to Electra-Craft - particularly because the terms of the limited warranty require you to pay for shipping both ways. Save the shippingt cost and invest it in another machine.
I, however, will never buy another Briel.

BW1000A Flojet Bottled Water Dispensing System Review

BW1000A Flojet Bottled Water Dispensing System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is a great way to connect a refrigerator to a bottled water system. A few suggestions if you are considering the purchase of this unit or a similar solution where you need to connect bottled water to your fridge:
1. ITT (Flojet) also makes a "dual" bottled water system which allows you to connect two five gallon water bottles at the same time. They call this the "Dual Inlet Bottled Water Dispensing System" and the model number is BW1020A. If you intend to run both the refrigerator's icemaker and water dispenser and you use a lot of water, consider the dual system. I bought the dual inlet model instead and I'm glad I did, we go through a lot of bottled water since we can't really drink the well water here...
2. In our house, the kitchen shares a wall with the garage, and we were able to easily drill a hole and run the 1/4" line through the wall - this keeps the Flojet pump in a different room and makes changing the bottled water easier since we store it in the garage anyway. If you have the opportunity to setup your system this way, I highly recommend it. Having the pump in a different room is important because the pump is loud when running, and since the icemaker will kick in and out at various times it is nice to have the pump located elsewhere. I don't think I would be happy with this solution if the pump had to be inside the kitchen since the noise would be a real problem.
3. Since virtually every refrigerator with a water connection uses the 1/4" tubing line, and since this unit includes 20' of 1/4" tubing, you don't really need anything to connect this to a refrigerator except for a 1/4" tubing union, which is not included. You could get one at your local hardware store, but Amazon has them and they are Prime eligible, here is the link: Celcon Acetal Copolymer "Push to Connect" Tubing Connector - Union Connector , 1/4". These are the easiest possible connectors to use, just push the tubing in on both sides and you're done. Here is another example of a 1/4" union: JACO Bulkhead Union - 1/4 inch Tube O.D. Female x 1/4 inch Tube O.D. Female just in case that one is gone...

Krups XP4050 1200-Watt 15-Bar-Pump Programmable Espresso Machine Review

Krups XP4050 1200-Watt 15-Bar-Pump Programmable Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must start with saying that this is my second XP4050 in one month, the first suffering from two problems. One problem was the same that others have mentioned here, when water stops coming out of the filter head and instead just dumps into the drip tray from an apparent overflow-type valve in the bottom of the machine. This only happened once, corrected itself, and never happened again. The second problem was that I noticed a small amount of water occasionally leaking from the buttons on the front and the stainless portion on the front of the machine would also get VERY hot. I believe these were one problem, possibly the brewing portion leaking.
I contacted Amazon online and was shocked at the ease and speed of getting a replacement model. At no charge to me, including shipping, I had a brand new XP4050 within 3 days.
The new model works perfect. I am a somewhat new espresso afficienado, having been making my own at home for only about 2 years. This is my second machine, my first being a Krups Gusto that recently died. I decided on the XP4050 after a great deal of research and comparing features versus cost. The price I got this model through Amazon was literally half what I was looking at with other brands.
As far as use of the machine, it couldn't be easier. I use mostly pods but have tried grounds with equally easy and great tasting shots. The three different filter baskets for brewing are held in the handle firmly, which was an issue in my old Krups Gusto (I accidently threw away the single shot filter basket). The frother performs very well although I have not tried the attachment for pulling the milk from a separate container. As others have said, make sure you keep an eye on your drip tray, it does tend to fill quickly. I empty mine every 4-6 shots.
Overall, even considering my initial "problem" model, I am extremely happy with the XP4050. It's a great looking, inexpensive, easy to use machine that consistently puts out quality shots of espresso. I would recommend this model to either new beginners or someone looking to step up a little.

DeLonghi EC140B Espresso and Cappuccino Maker Review

DeLonghi EC140B Espresso and Cappuccino Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I owned the maker for a while. It's far better than many of the Krups and other models typically for sale at department stores. If you want an espresso, you'll need a pump machine. Many cheap machines will say "steam driven" or otherwise have "steam" in the title: what this means is that they lack a pump and merely use steam pressure to get now overly superheated water to flow through the fine espresso grinds. (By the way, "espresso" is, for all intents and purposes, a grind, not a roast. It is a very fine powdery grind, just shy of Turkish grind.) This results in charred burnt espresso, with little or no crema.
This DeLonghi, by contrast, does a fine little job of pumping. In addition, it uses a small stainless steel boiler -- not a superheated "thermoblock" [which means the water is run over a heating coil, not heated within a boiler].
That said, the only way to get an espresso, meaning a coffee drink in which properly heated water is compressed through a powdery grind of freshly roasted beans, and thus producing a chemical reaction which releases a frothy caramel colored liquid (called "crema"), is by using a very good grinder to produce a very fine, even grind. This machine, when coupled with a Gaggia MDF or Rancilio Rocky, or at the most economical, an Innova Lux or Solis Maestro Plus, and beans roasted within two weeks prior, can produce good espresso.
As to cappuccino, the machine does a fine job for the price in steaming milk. In order to do this, though, you must "temperature surf" the thermostat. What this means is that you steam while the boiler is heating. It's simple: start steaming your milk and you'll find that the steam power will run out in about 15 seconds. At that time the light for the boiler will come on, indicating the boiler is engaged. Instead of closing the steam valve and waiting for the light to go off, just close the steam valve for a few seconds, and then open it again, as you continue steaming the milk with the light still on (and hence the boiler still heating). This will give adequate steaming power.
I don't believe you can really get a better espresso or cappuccino maker for under $150. If you want to go for a huge step up, consider buying a Gaggia Carreza. It's worth the extra money.

Reviews can be deceiving... I purchased it after reading the first review and did not expect dishonest reviewer here. Unfortunately, someone created it to benefit the distributor! The return policy (Ace Photo Digital) is guarded with a long page of peculiar conditions not common among Amazon vendors. This should have been the first clue... Second, follow the instructions and if your espresso reminds you the last visit at Jeffy Lube, you are not alone. I used filtered water and organic beans, better ingredients than you can hope for at your local Starbucks, but... This is not why I come home after work and hoped to have a single shot of espresso. It has been a disappointment to say the least.

This little frother that uses 2 AA batteries works great. I no longer need to go to Starbucks to get good frothed coffee! This is a better design in many ways than the original frother which used 4 AA batteries and had a spinning disc that looked like it could double as a Dremel tool. That one worked well, but if you touched your mug with it, marred the ceramic glaze.
This is a much better design, like a mini wisk, and it is a really good price.

Nespresso D90 Essenza Single-Serve Manual Espresso Machine Review

Nespresso D90 Essenza Single-Serve Manual Espresso Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is based on my experience with the Nespresso Essenza C90, but the Nespresso Essenza D90 is quite similar, and I believe that the espresso making mechanism is exactly the same.
We all have our little passions. Over the years, I have devoted too much time, money, and study to perfecting the art of making the perfect coffee and espresso. I searched the world (and the internet) for the best beans, grinders, equipment, and even tried roasting my own beans and became able to produce better potions that one can ever find in the coffee boutiques. Still, as it turns out, my efforts were in vain. The Nespresso Essenza (and probably the other Nespresso machines similar in design) produces the perfect cup and the ease of doing so, sadly, puts my efforts to shame.
The secret seems to be in the strong pumping mechanism (19 bars of pressure, same as their more expensive machines) and their superb coffee capsules. After being such a stickler for the freshest roasted estate grown beans, I balked at the use of capsules and considered it the coffee for dummies approach. I also thought that they might be kind of similar in quality to the coffee "pods" used in the new single serve coffee machines, which range from bad (for the manufacturer and supermarket brands) to only fairly good (for the best of the gourmet, limited-edition pods at over $1 each).
Against all odds, the Nespresso pods are pure magic. I ordered new pods right away, but even the sampler pods that came with the machine were incredible, despite being past their "best before" expiration date. I'm equally mystified as to how they can have about twelve varieties and almost all be exquisite, despite noticeable differences not only in strength but in flavor. The "lungo"capsules are also fantastic (these produce 4 ounces of coffee-espresso instead of the classic 1 to 2 ounce espresso). Being partial to espresso and very dark coffee, I wasn't so impressed with the two or three pods weakest in strength, but those who like traditional American coffee might prefer them.
The Nespresso capsules completely dispelled my concern that they would be limiting compared to the use of coffee beans. It turns out that the opposite is true. Sure, there may be hundreds of different beans available, with infinite possibilities of blends and roasts, but they rarely reach the superior flavor these capsules achieve. Moreover, ordering coffee beans limits you to only one or two roasts for awhile, unless you buy a variety of green coffee beans (which last much longer than roasted beans) and roast them yourself in small quantities. With the capsules, a nice variety of espresso variations are available instantly.
Having been in the habit of ordering expensive coffee beans, I find the cost of the Nespresso capsules at $.50 each and the two-day shipping charge of only $5.95 (for any quantity) very reasonable. When buying roasted coffee beans, the shipping cost for one or two day air was much higher, and I had to reorder them every few weeks to keep fresh ones on hand. Since the Nespresso capsules stay fresh much longer, I can order a several month supply at one time.
The only criticism of the machine is that the espresso might not be quite hot enough for some aficionados. However, it is just hot enough for me, and the temperature can be raised slightly by heating the cup first.
It is amazing that I can now enjoy the best espresso almost instantly. This is truly the perfect way to enjoy espresso, even if I can no longer take credit for concocting it.

Developed with a unique extraction system specially designed for coffee-filled capsules, this 1200-watt single-serve manual espresso machine deploys technology essential for preparing perfect espresso. A simple system perforates the hermetically sealed capsule and soaks all the ground coffee to optimally filter the coffee, while the unit's high-pressure 19-bar pump extracts all the aromas and gives body to the espresso ensuring a smooth crema--the delicious creamy layer on top. In addition, the machine's Thermoblock heating system heats water to 187 degrees and 196 degrees during extraction and empties the remaining water after each use so that the water is fresh for each preparation. Used capsules eject semi-automatically into the used-capsule collection container upon lifting the handle on the top of the unit.
Other highlights include manual control of the amount of coffee in the cup, a backlit control button, electronic temperature regulation, and a removable 34-ounce water container. The espresso machine only uses capsules, not any other ground espresso, but a range of nine premium coffee blends is available, including decaffeinated. The capsules can be purchased from Nespresso, either by phone or at their Web site, and an assortment of 12 capsules comes included. Compactly designed in ABS housing, the strikingly modern espresso machine measures 10 by 6-1/2 by 11-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Nespresso CitiZ D110 Espresso Maker Review

Nespresso CitiZ D110 Espresso Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After many years of being faithful Tassimo customers, we finally gave up on them: The quality of their products deteriorated until we could take it no more: The machines--we went through three of them; the coffee discs--more Seattle's Best Henry's Blend discs exploded than worked; the Home Delivery Service was extremely unreliable--we ran out of coffee many times because our standing order could not be filled and then we finally went two full months without a shipment because of backorders; and most recently, the varieties of coffee available has diminished and the selection is pitiful. What to do???
After much thought and investigation--because no other machine does exactly what the Tassimo machine did (make coffee and tea and froth milk from the same spout), we decided on the Nesspresso CitiZ.
What a gem of a machine! What wonderful coffee! What wonderful choices! If you read the accompanying literature and get yourself into the whole sensual experience of each small cupful--from choosing your jewel-toned disc from a beautiful, smooth, black box (like opening a box of bon-bons! seriously!)through smelling, tasting and feeling the coffee--well, it's seriously pleasurable.
We were used to drinking large-size cups of coffee or tea before leaving for work (and we still drink our large cups of tea during the day), but realized that we often left coffee in the cup in the sink. So we took a chance on the expresso--didn't know if we'd be able to tolerate the change to a few sips in the morning. But the change has been effortless and so rewarding: Because the coffee is so smooth and rich, it is easier and more satisfying to relish a few sips rather than big gulps of average-tasting coffee. We really didn't know what we were missing.
If you like more mild coffee and think that expresso will be too strong for you--then you think like I did. And I was wrong and there is no reason to be afraid of Nespresso expresso and lungo (long cups--still pretty small): This great coffee is not bitter; it has a variety of fragrances, and feel, and flavors in each sip--and I've found that I am now leaning towards the more "intense" blends. There are two buttons to choose how much water you want to pass through each disc, and they are easily programmable, so the amount of water is up to you. And that is the reason we took a chance on this machine. But now I find that I prefer to go along with the suggested amount of water for each blend. After all, the recommendations come from experts and they know what they're doing!
Regarding where you purchase your machine: We compared prices, cost of shipping, available specials and freebies, and we settled on paying a little more and buying it directly from the company--and bought coffee discs at the same time. Unfortunately, we were unaware that they charge tax--no matter what state you live in. So consider that when you are doing your research.
And regarding the color "Creamy White"--I saw it called "60's White" somewhere, too: We decided on this color hoping it would match with pale yellow appliances, cabinet inserts and some retro white small appliances and kitchen gadgets. It goes very nicely. If you need "white-white", this color will not do. This is creamy, going into very pale yellow.
